In the winter when the sun is low a fan comes on when the panels are warm enough and blows warm air into the duct in the ceiling of the family room.
The sellers estimated once years ago that it saved about $100.00 a month on their heating bills in the winter.There is a switch in the sun porch closet which can turn the system on and off.
Also, the man they bought the house from in 1991 had put rocks under the sun porch for heat storage during the day to be used at night, but he never hooked it up. All the galvanized ducts for that are in the garage, but the current owners never did anything with them.They don’t know how that was to be done, but presumably could be activated in the future.
Also, they know it works in the winter just fine.
